Calpine/Otay Mesa Generating Plant
Otay Mesa, CA
Power Facility
Description
The Calpine/Otay Mesa Generating Plant is an ultra-clean, technologically advanced power generating facility. The plant has an electricity generating capacity of 510 megawatts, translating into enough energy for 500,000 households. The plant involves production of a 500- megawatt combined cycle power plant including off-site roadways, cross- country sewer trunk and off-site gas main.
Achievements
- Location of the plant – remote area at the western base of the San Ysidro Mountains, close to the U.S. Mexico border.
- Sewer and gas lines constrained by environmentally and culturally sensitive habitat.
- Coordination with four separate design engineering firms and five general contractors.
- As-built survey of all welded joints for 24” gas line, as-needed survey of conduit duct banks within plant site, horizontal and vertical control surveys, and as-needed as-built survey for foundation bolt certification.
